What the petition asks

Get a Union for the Industry of Chefs, regulated the hours legally, enforce it legally. No more horrendous over time.
And make it illegal to not having to pay over time. Get these Chefs better pay & hours or the industry is going to die.

The gastronomy industry is struggling finding Chefs. Because Chefs are getting fed up, working over 12 hours a day, and getting an incredibly low pay. If they work over time, calculated many get less than £6 an hour. Many contracts for Chefs state, that they need to work according to the need of the pub/restaurant. Due to the shortage of staff, most Chefs work 80 hours a week.
No one wants to work for that poor pay.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about pay beyond National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage are a matter for individual employers, not the Government or House of Commons. Similarly, setting up a union is a matter for workers, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
