What the petition asks
The current definition “80% of surrounding market value” is not linked to earnings. We need a new definition which IS linked to earnings.
For example: An affordable home is deemed such if it is no more than 4x that of a full time minimum wage salary (or 3x average wage salary) for that same area

The current definition is not linked to earnings and with property prices having become totally disproportionate to earnings, an affordable home is often far from affordable.
A new definition would help deliver homes which are within the reach of the man on the street and not just the elite.

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about existing arrangements for affordable housing, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
There are a number of ways in which affordable housing is defined and informs Government policies, but it's not clear what changes you want. For example, it's not clear if you want to see changes that affect local authority obligations to ensure provision of affordable housing, or changes to schemes to help people purchase affordable housing.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
