What the petition asks
If you live alone, renting and under 35 and find yourself out of work and relying on housing benefit, you will only receive a reduced 'Shared housing rate' benefit. For instance, in Stockport they will pay £82.21, as opposed to £120.82 (1 bed); and in Tameside £65.84, compared to £92.05 (1 bed).
People struggle to get shared accommodation within this allowance leading to having to top up using other benefits. This is leading to food and fuel poverty; which can lead to homelessness. This is fueling a policy of slum landlords.
