Strengthen requirements for checking vehicle exhaust noise levels for the MOT
Closed
185 signatures
What the petition asks
The Government should require that a vehicles exhaust's noise levels are checked to ascertain if they have been modified to make them louder. This should include any systems that allow the noise of the vehicle exhaust to be increased or decreased by the driver.
Vehicles that have been illegally modified should fail their MOT, and stations should face fines or lose of their licence if they fail to perform these checks.
Noise pollution from exhaust modified vehicles has an adverse effect on large numbers of households. Interrupting sleep and frightening young children. The World Health Organisation has published research quantifying the number of healthy life years lost due to environmental noise, including from road vehicles.
