Increase funding for children's social care from to £15 billion

Closed 202 signatures

What the petition asks

I want the Government to increase the funding it gives to local authorities for children's social care because according to an Office for National Statistics (ONS) report:
1 in 11 children face emotional abuse before the age of 16
1 in 14 children face physical abuse before the age of 16
1 in 10 calls to the NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) helpline in 2018-19 reported neglect
1 in 7 child abuse cases go unreported

Between 2009 and 2019 local authority spending on children’s social care only increased by 16%.
On the 31st of March 2020 there were 80,080 looked-after children in the UK.
During the coronavirus outbreak the number of child abuse calls to the NSPCC has gone up 20%

Something needs to change because vulnerable children are being failed by the childcare system every day due to lack of funding.
