What the petition asks
Amend the Planning Bill so that local authorities have a duty to protect golf courses and other sports grounds from redevelopment.
The Government’s Planning Bill requires Local Authorities to produce Local Plans that allow development on Green Belt land if there are insufficient Brownfield sites to meet expanded Central Government targets. This has resulted in a large number of golf courses in the South East being included in draft Local Plans.
Golf has enjoyed a surge in popularity over the last 18 months. The Government should be encouraging outdoor sports to develop the physical and mental health of the nation.
