What the petition asks
Recognise Nature as Religion by 1st November 2021 for COP26
UK is holding COP26 on 1st November 2021. By recognising Nature as a religion we get to chose how we would like to worship nature and become part of it to help protect it.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.
The Government is not responsible for recognising religions. The Equality Act 2010 makes religion or belief a protected characteristic: https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/equality-act/protected-characteristics#rob
Determining whether a religion or belief is protected under this legislation is a matter for the courts.
