What the petition asks
The Government should provide funding for routine early testing of pregnant women for Group B Strep.
My baby was born and at 2 days old ended up in hospital with Group B streptococcal meningitis. He stopped eating, started having convulsions and went down hill very quickly. He spent the first 14 days of his life in hospital receiving treatment.
I was unaware I had Strep B when pregnant because in the UK this is not routinely tested. Had I known I could have been treated before giving birth. My son came very close to death and we are extremely lucky he is here with us today.
