Address the crisis within HMRC and the failings of the service

What the petition asks
The government needs to carry out a full review of HMRC, its current backlog levels, wait times and complaint levels.
It needs to provide a plan for overhauling the system and funding the service properly so these backlog levels do not continue to be an issue as they have been for years.

Its no secret that HMRC has struggled for years, however in the past 18 months the decline in service has made the service unusable.
How can this country can expect to recover and flourish in the aftermath of the pandemic if the service at the core of all businesses is at breaking point?
How can we expect our economy to strengthen if businesses aren’t getting the basic service levels needed from HMRC?
Why are we accepting this level of service simply because HMRC is a government agency?

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand that you would like the services at HMRC to be improved for business that use them but it is unclear how exactly you would like the Government to do that. You could have a petition calling for more funding for HMRC or for the Government to increase staffing levels to deal with the backlog if that is something that you would like to see happen.
