What the petition asks

Whilst MPs can afford to pay themselves £ 124,563,028.78 in expenses in a single year (1 February 2020-21 January 2021) they are, according to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation about to plunge '500,000 people into poverty overnight.'

We believe that it is the measure of a civilised country to protect the most vulnerable. As Torsten Bell of the Resolution Foundation says 'Continuing the uplift is the only right thing to do.'
If the government needs to save money then it should look closer to home.
To MPs £20 is loose change, to a claimant it is literally the difference between eating and going hungry.
The British Government has a moral duty to support our most vulnerable members. We call upon them to do so.
