Review Covid-19 management of prisons to reduce prison violence

What the petition asks
The Government should review how the management of prisons during Covid-19 to learn lessons, in light of latest safety in custody statistics, which show a 40% reduction in assaults and a decrease of 24% in assaults against Prison staff in the 12 months to June 2021.
The regimes introduced to combat Covid infections resulted in offenders spending time out of cell in fewer numbers and with increased supervision. If this opportunity to review prison regimes and learn lessons is ignored, assaults and violence in prisons will surely rise back to pre-Covid levels.
