Petition · past parliament
Reduce congestion charge, and create a central fund for parking fines
Rejected

What the petition asks
Legally create a maximum toll charge and maximum parking cost. Additionally the government should create more accountability regarding the enforcement of parking and parking fines in addition to removing the proceeds from going to the council
I believe it unfair to use car users as a cash cow. In addition the fact that the proceeds from parking go to the council makes them an unfair judge and enforcers. The central government has reduced local council budgets and the councils are using parking and other minor infractions as a way of replacing that budget. Surely government was never ment to work that way. There is always ment to be a fair and impartial application and approach to enforcement
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The cost of the congestion charge is a matter for Transport for London and the Mayor of London, not the UK Government or Parliament. Decisions relating to the cost of parking are matters for local authorities and private providers.
You could have a petition calling for the Government to fund local authorities to provide more free car parking in their areas, if that is something you'd like to see happen.
