Cut VAT on domestic electricity to zero

What the petition asks
Regarding the 5% VAT on domestic energy consumption, Boris Johnson said in May 2016: "When we Vote Leave, we will be able to scrap this unfair and damaging tax."
I want the Government to take advantage of this opportunity and reduce VAT on domestic electricity to zero.
Ofgem will be increasing the energy price cap substantially in October which may lead to rocketing bills that will, as always, affect those on lower incomes disproportionately.
Regarding climate change, we are told that electricity is the future. Cutting VAT on electricity to zero could help mitigate the misery of increased bills as winter sets in and support the move away from reliance on fossil fuels.
