Change stiles to gates on footpaths across the UK

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Stiles can make it difficult or impossible for many people with mobility difficulties to access permissive footpaths and public rights of way. Stiles can also be difficult to use by other groups, such as parents carrying children. Stiles discriminate against the elderly, the disabled to name a few
Permissive footpaths and public rights of way should be open to all, particularly in places of public interest. This has been a particular issue during the Covid-19 outbreak, when UK Governments advise us to exercise on our own doorstep.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Maintaining and replacing stiles and gates on public footpaths is a matter for he landowner, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to require landowners to replace stiles on public footpaths with gates, if that's what you want to happen.
