Make carrying a knife a minimum 5 year sentence

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Review the current system regarding knife crime in the uk, make it a minimum of 5 years in prison if caught carrying a knife. Needs to be reviewed immediately.
Too many lives are being lost on our streets in the uk, and in my local area of derby is becoming more frequent, a knife is a deadly weapon and carrying one has only one intention in mind! The punishment needs to be a lot more severe than the current system that clearly don’t work! A review of the system in knife crime needed immediately as the current one is flawed, we also need a monthly knife amnesty across the country in all areas. Too many people dying too young because of peoples actions

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about knife crime, but we're not sure if you just want a minimum 5-year sentence to be imposed for possession of a knife, or if you want a wider review or additional changes.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
