Abolish the Upper Earnings Limit for National Insurance

What the petition asks
To remove the Upper Earnings Limit in employee National Insurance contributions which, at the moment means that those on £50,000 pa pay only 2% employee NI on their income above that level.
Abolishing the Upper Earnings Limit should increase National Insurance revenue by billions of pounds a year.
Today, someone earning £1 million pays, in effect, 2,4% of gross income on employer NI, whilst someone on £25k pays 7.4%, on £50k 9.7%. An MP pays 6.7% on basic MP salary.
Abolition of the UEL would make contributions more equitable, ensure improved funding the NI system on a sustained basis, and reflect ability to pay.
