Tax the rich, not everyone else. End tax havens.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

A Wealth tax on the richest 1% at a rate of 0.05% would raise £250bn a year. Instead, the government has chosen to tax the average person.

The government must impose a tax raise on the super rich in Britain, and stop allowing tax havens to exist.

Wages have stagnated for years under Tory rule, house prices, and general living costs have risen and not at a relative rate. Now, we the people are expected to pay higher taxes for a social care scheme that costs 1/3 of the price of a test & trace app, and a 10th of the price of High Speed 2.

We need to also end tax havens that people use to not pay UK Tax

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want the Government to raise taxes for the top 1% and end tax loopholes, but we have been unable to verify your calculation that a 0.05% wealth tax on the richest 1% would raise £250 billion a year. You also needed to be clearer with changes you wanted the Government to make to existing tax rules to end tax havens.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

For example, you could have a petition like: Work internationally to ban use of tax havens for offshore banking
