Amend the Bus Services Act 2017 to allow public ownership of bus companies

Closed 500 signatures

What the petition asks

We would like the Government to revoke section 22 of the Bus Services Act 2017, which forbids any local transport authority from forming a new municipal bus company.
We firmly believe that by allowing local authorities to take control of local passenger services it will vastly improve services for the public.
We believe that private companies have put profit ahead of running a reliable service and more and more rural areas are losing services that are vital to the community because of this, moving to public ownership can change this.
Public ownership could also help the environment as private companies are sometimes reluctant to embrace cleaner buses unless financially motivated to do so.
