What the petition asks
Recognise the importance of England's greatest city by re-naming the county of Hampshire to it's it's rightful original name of Southamptonshire
Southampton is the gateway to the world and a city that any country would be blessed to have as part of it's land, the people are by far the finest known to these fair isles and we feel it's due to time the original county name was brought back to represent these facts.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Prior to becoming Hampshire, the country was officially titled the County of Southampton. The use of Southamptonshire was an informal term for the county, which people can still choose to use if they so wish.
