To Limit or cap the annual increase of the service charges by the landlords

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

The government can enforce that lease agreement to comply with a minimum standard ensuring sets of fair and transparent terms which works for both tenants and landlords. As such , it is prudent ensure transparency by landlords demanding service charge or any other costs.
Along with ground rents, service charges will be paid by some leaseholders to cover the cost of maintaining the building in which their property is located. The way the most of lease agreement is written allows landlords and their managing agent ( who are often same company) to increase the service charge with unfair rate , often as high as 50%, with almost not justification or transparency . The tenant are often have no right to question or request any explanation or even breakdown of the spending.
