Petition · past parliament

Make media outlets accountable for misleading headline journalism.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Ensure context between headlines and news stories.
Media outlets have increasingly been using click bait style headlines which are not in context with the actual story. Headlines have been designed to coax consumers into clicking links which lead to pages filled with adverts. These reduce numbers of people who read the full article.

Stories have been taken out of context and have caused issues such as the rushes to petrol pumps in 2021 even though companies continued to reassure the public that supply chains were adequate.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the content of media reporting.
