What the petition asks
National Curry Week is rarely celebrated in the UK despite the dish's immense popularity. A curry bank holiday could lend the event more recognition and make the public more likely to support the nation's curryhouses. This would then lend a boost to hospitality following the effects of the pandemic.
Chicken tikka masala was voted the country's most popular dish in 2011, beating out even fish and chips!
The UK curryhouse industry contributes roughly 5.5 billion to the nation's economy and is responsible for the employment of over 100,000 people.
