What the petition asks
The Government should increase subsidies for farmers to grow healthy foods such as fruit, vegetables, legumes, grains, nut and seeds which have no saturated fat. This should help increase availability of this produce and so encourage greater public health and ease the pressure on the NHS
The NHS says that eating too much saturated fats in your diet and that as part of a healthy diet, people should try to cut down on foods and drinks that are high in saturated fats .
If farmers can be encouraged through subsidies to grow healthy fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes etc. then over time this should result in more uptake of healthy eating at lower cost to the consumer with all the attendant advantages to the environment and of course the NHS.
