What the petition asks
It's too easy for perpetrators of domestic violence to access the vulnerable. The Disclosure and Barring Service filters some cautions and warnings from the record after 6 years. As legislation and facilities improve for victims of DV, it's time to ensure the safety of our vulnerable.
Despite the seemingly mild offences that cautions/warnings that are filtered represent, the reality is often far more serious, as many perpetrators may only be given a caution or warning. Worryingly, after 6 years they may then be able to find employment working with the vulnerable.
Victims of DV typically don't call Police until after multiple assaults, meaning the perpetrator usually only receives a caution or warning for that 'one' attack. It is important this stays on the record.
