Energy companies to remove the Standing Charge from Gas and Electricity bills.

What the petition asks
If the Government are unable to remove the V.A.T from fuel bills, then they should look at the cost of the standing charge on those bills. At the moment in the North East on a standard tariff, they amount to over £226 per year. This is increased at every fuel price adjustment and totally unfair.
At a time of rising fuel costs, this is a charge on fuel bills for nothing in return. The power companies have a silent tax with these charges. We need to lower the cost of ever spiraling energy prices.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a matter for energy providers.
