Require retired racing greyhounds to be muzzled in public

Closed 176 signatures

What the petition asks

Retired greyhounds should be made to wear a muzzle when out in public whether on lead or off. These dogs have been trained to chase small furry animals and even retired this can create risks for other pets. Muzzling them when in public for the first 3 years after retirement should be compulsory.
My extremely friendly 5 month old puppy was killed by a greyhound during a walk in a field. When she saw the greyhound she crawled near to greet her but the greyhound bit her tightly and would not release her until I was able to pry her from its jaws. She died from her injuries an hour or so later. The greyhound was on a lead but the owner was not able to control or command it to stop. A muzzle on this occasion would have at least given my puppy a fighting chance of survival.
