Stop Councils creating blanket 20mph Zones.

What the petition asks
Stop councils creating blanket 20mph zones restrict zones to roads within 500metres of schools and known accident blackspots.
Turning major roads into blanket 20mph Zones causes more pollution and traffic jams delaying people in their every day lives.
I recently drove on a duel carridgeway which there is absolutely no justification for in making it a 20mph Zone.
The argument that it is safer for pedestrians absolves pedestrians of all responsibility for their actions when crossing roads. Why not return to a man with a red flag walking infront of vehices at 4mph even safer

Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Decisions about speed limits are a matter for the relevant highway authority, not the Government or Parliament.
If you are concerned about speed limits in your area you could raise this issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them: https://www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to amend the powers highway authorities have to vary speed limits, but it would need to be clear what changes you wanted to be made to these powers.
