Petition · past parliament

Honour the UK's international commitments and prioritise the right to food.

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

Between 2019 and 2020 food bank use rose by an estimated 110% [Independent Food Aid Network]. In light of this, we call on the UK Government to fulfil its international commitments under international human rights law, and make the right to food, and its access, a reality.
Some key facts:

- The number of children in England receiving free school meals soared to more than 1.7 million in 2021 [Guardian]

- Food insecurity rose to 9% of UK households in Jan 2021 [The Food Foundation].

- Food insecurity disproportionately affects Black led households (19%) [UK Gov]

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about access to food, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
