Fund legal representation for Windrush compensation scheme claimants

What the petition asks
The Government should make funding available to cover the costs of legal representation for Windrush compensation scheme claimants. This should help to increase the number of people who apply and receive money from this scheme
According to a recent report by the Home Affairs Select Committee, only 5% of the estimated 15,000 claimants have received compensation.
More help and encouragement is required to support those who are not applying due to their socio-economic and cultural position.
Some are discouraged to apply because of their poor financial position. While others may simply not understand or be fully aware of the scheme.
Free legal representation for claimants should remove many of the barriers stopping individuals from applying.
