Ban the sale of cats and dogs online and increase penalties

What the petition asks
The Government should ban the sale of cats and dogs online. These animals are being stolen at an alarming rate for selling on. Online classified ad platforms have thousands of cats and dogs listed for sale. Some are surely stolen animals in a poor state.
The laws pertaining to the welfare of cats and dogs in the UK is shocking. There needs to be stricter laws against dog and cat theft and heavier fines and punishments.
This needs to be laid down by the government as there are some vile people and groups who are stealing cats and dogs off the street, burgling houses for them, for breeding and selling on, then just dumping these beloved pets miles from home when no longer needed or not suitable for breeding or selling.
