Reinstate the National Anthem on the BBC for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

For many years the national anthem was played at the end of the day’s broadcast on the BBC. Since switching to news 24 it stopped. It’s now time to bring it back.
Reinstate the National Anthem on the BBC for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

In celebration of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee year, the BBC should play the National Anthem before it changes to News 24 for the night. This is a simple, patriotic way to unite our nation and bring everyone together to honour Her Majesty and celebrate her remarkable 70 years as monarch.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested.
