Change - Civil Matter to Criminal Offence for those who pay only half TAXI FARE

What the petition asks

Change the law to make it Criminal offence from Civil matter if someone only pay or offer to pay half /part payment for the taxi fare.
People are using the loophole to only pay half or little taxi fare as they know that then it becomes civil matter resulting taxi driver losing the fare. It is hard for the taxi driver to take it to court because police normally don’t give the offender details saying data protection. Without offender details taxi driver can’t take it to SMALL CLAIM COURT resulting same offender using the loophole again and again because they know they can get away with it.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Depending on the circumstances, non-payment of a taxi fare could already be treated as a criminal offence under the Theft Act 1978 or Fraud Act 2006. It is up to individual taxi drivers whether to accept partial payment for a journey, provided this is permitted under the relevant licensing framework.
