What the petition asks
MPs who are elected as a member of one party and then either choose to leave that party, or have the whip removed by their party, should face a mandatory by-election.
Most MPs stand for a particular political party with a manifesto at a General Election.
If they cease to be a member of that party during the course of that Parliament, they should face a mandatory by-election.
