Don't recognise 'Somaliland' as an independent state

What the petition asks
Recent attempts to unilaterally declare independence by Somaliland should not be rewarded. It sets a bad precedent. It is our hope that the UK Government will do the right thing and respect the political independence and territorial integrity of Somalia as a whole.
The breakaway region of Somaliland today is dominated by one clan, and there are concerns about denial of human rights. Recognising Somaliland’s independence would surely ride roughshod over the inalienable rights of northern unionists in Somaliland, transgress over the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia which hitherto the USA/UK routinely supported; and risks destabilizing Somalia and neighbouring countries. We feel the adverse consequences of these factors (and more) far outweigh the benefits.
