Consider withdrawing the new highway code that comes into effect 29th January

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

I would like the Government to rescind the new Highway Code that is coming into effect on 29th January 2021 in terms of the pedestrian having the right of way over vehicles when crossing the road at a junction
Old rules state that a vehicle has priority at a junction. New rules coming into effect give the pedestrian the right of way. This to me is madness & is asking for accidents to happen. So said pedestrian is walking out in front of car with headphones on or using phone & distracted & hit by car = drivers fault. This will also add to vehicles getting rear ended & also pedestrians being verbally abused by the vehicle driver. This new Highway Code is ridiculous & must be stopped.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about changes to the Highway Code, but we're not sure exactly what changes you don't want to be implemented.

The current Highway Code states that drivers should watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning, and if they have started to cross they have priority, so give way. Similar language is included in the update Highway Code.
