Introduce a cap for annual rent increases

What the petition asks
The Government should introduce legislation to ensure that private rent cannot be increased beyond a certain rate, so huge increases cannot be levied on tenants. The rate of this cap should be subject to a public consultation.
I received a 25% price increase on my rent. This means my outgoings on housing are vastly increasing. This is alongside significant increases in energy prices, that make it almost impossible to live on wages that do not rise in line with inflation.
Many letting agents have been sending out letters to tenants to advise them on how to shoulder the burden of increased living costs. This would not be necessary if increases in private rent were capped.
