What the petition asks
End the taxpayer subsidy for alcohol in the Houses of Parliament bars.
Ban consumption of alcohol on all government property.
Ban consumption of alcohol on all government property.
Many employers have a complete ban on drinking in the work place and during work hours.
Yet the tax payer subsidises the consumption of alcohol in the Houses of Parliament.
This subsidy should end.
The consumption of alcohol on all government property should be banned.
It is 2022 and time to bring the working environment of MPs and staff in line with the rest of society.
I quote the Sue Grey report:
"iv. The excessive consumption of alcohol is not appropriate in a professional workplace at any time. Steps must be taken to ensure that every Government Department has a clear and robust policy in place covering the consumption of alcohol in the workplace."

The House of Commons Catering service does not provide a subsidised service in the commercial sense of the word. Some venues make a profit, while in other venues the cost of providing the service does exceed the income received in sales due to the irregular hours and unpredictability of parliamentary business.
