What the petition asks

A bill to authorise the holding of a referendum in relation to the codification of the UK constitution should be debated and voted on within Parliament.

It is a primary principle of any government that, being as we institute governments for the purpose of protecting our rights, and that the governed have transparent knowledge of what their rights are. The current status of the constitution doesn't serve these ends.

The very content of the constitution is unclear to the average person, and discerning which Acts of Parliament are and aren't constitutional law is vague. A codified constitution would make our political system and our rights clear.
