Give landlord more rights when the tenant doesn't pay for damages
Rejected
17 signatures
What the petition asks
If the deposit is insufficient to cover the damages, the renter should be held liable and required to pay for the work that the landlord has to conduct
It's not right that a tenant may simply stop paying rent and leave. Sometimes the deposit is insufficient to cover all of the damages. Landlords should have more legal recourse to recover their losses. Tenants who default on their rent should have a bad credit score given to them. It's time to protect the landlords.
Why it was rejected
The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.
Landlords can already take tenants (or former tenants) to court for the cost of damages to their property.
