What the petition asks
To create a detailed plan for the repurposing & regeneration of every town and city in England, made available for full public consultation and supervised by an independent "Regeneration Tsar”. This should revisit the outcomes of the 'Future High Street Fund' and promote a nationwide solution.
For towns and cities, the High Street acts as the main hub for community, supporting not just employment and commerce, but social connectedness and wellbeing. Empty stores are unsightly, a burden on landlords, hurt surrounding businesses, and when increasing High Street vacancy becomes everyone’s local problem, it needs a national solution. We appreciate that some efforts in this regard have been made in 50 towns / cities, but it is important that a nationwide regeneration formulae is found.
