Make all countryside walks accessible for prams and wheelchairs.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

Change all small kissing gates & stiles into standard gates or kissing gates that are large enough to fit a wheelchair or pram through.
Currently most of the countryside walks are inaccessible to parents/ carers who have to/ choose to use prams, wheelchairs and for those who cannot climb over stiles. As a country who wants to address ways to help combat mental health issues this would make a huge difference to those who are currently unable to get out. We are all aware of the positive correlation between mental health and exercise/ the outdoors.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about maintenance of public rights of way are a matter for the relevant landowner, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to ban the use of stiles and other specific types of gates on public and permissive footways, to make these routes more accessible, if that's something you'd like to happen.
