Create protected status for the Teviothead Volcanic Complex and its Environment

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

Survey and record the compounded archaeology, history and environment of the Teviothead Volcanic Complex

Create a heritage geopark to protect a unique cultural identity, and geological landscape under immediate on ongoing destruction from commercial blanket forestry and vast wind farm development
With 40 years in cultural heritage we have continually raised the plight of this regions historic environment to successive local and national Governments and their agencies, MP's and MSP's, to no avail

This neglected region straddles national and county boundaries, and has had no significant updates in its designations in over 50 years

A Scottish petition application to gain protected status has just been rejected on the grounds that this is not within the powers of the Scottish Parliament

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the protection of Teviothead Volcanic Complex, but we're not sure how you want this area to be protected.

In any case, establishing a geopark would be a matter for the landowner or relevant authority, not the Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
