Remove Russia’s access to the international payment system SWIFT

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

For nations financial institutions to conduct foreign business they require access to The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (Swift).

Even if other nations do not back the ban, our Government should remove Russia’s access to using SWIFT with our financial institutions.
Removing Russia from the system, would make it close to impossible for financial institutions to send money in or out of their country.

This is not a moment to hold back on one of the harshest sanctions, because of our own economic impact. We are all witnesses to the destruction of a democratic nation. We need to do everything in our power to support Ukraine.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

On the 26 February the Governments of the UK, EU, USA and Canada released a statement setting out far reaching sanctions against Russia, including excluding some Russian banks from using SWIFT.
