Oral Function/Tongue Tie Training to be given to all Midwives & Health Visitors

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Ensure all Health Visitors and Midwives within the NHS are given thorough tongue tie and oral function training to assess babies appropriately in the first few weeks of life.
Oral function and tongue tie training is needed to give infants the right care when they need it, at birth. This is to stop infants, children and their families from suffering unnecessarily. Undiagnosed tongue tie can result in aerophagia induced reflux, breastfeeding journeys ending prematurely, speech problems in later life, difficulty feeding from not only the bottle or breast but swallowing and masticulating solid foods

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about training for NHS staff are a matter for the NHS and the professional bodies for medical staff, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to review how babies with Tongue Tie are diagnosed and treated, to identify ways of improving this, if that's something you'd like to happen.
