Reform GCSE Mathematics to have 'core' and 'advanced' options

What the petition asks
We believe the current subject content for GCSE maths does not help many students be confident in basic numeracy and key skills.
The Government should reform GCSE Mathematics so there are Core (for all students) and Advanced (optional) subjects, and students can choose what course to take.
Too many students fail GCSE maths, often in part because they don't get the abstract way some maths is assessed in exams.
I believe we spend too much time preparing students for exams and not teaching them the essential numeracy skills they will use in their everyday life no matter what career they go on to. Creating a core Maths GCSE focusing on these essential maths skills should help make this a more practical and useful class.
