Ask NICE to make OPTUNE brain cancer treatment available on the NHS

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

NICE have deemed OPTUNE by NOVOCURE to not be cost effective. This treatment is saving lives and extending life expectancy in the USA ( FDA APPROVED) and in EUROPE ( CE APPROVED)

Brain cancer patients are having to self fund (£250,000 per annum) or go abroad .

We want NICE to reconsider.
This treatment can offer very good quality of life and given that the number of treatment options are limited, NICE should reconsider.

Treatment should be available to all, not to just those that can afford it.

We would like to as Government to investigate this issue again and make NICE look at the quality of life and hope it can offer brain cancer patients. Even if this is a shorter amount of time than NICE deems acceptable.

The more patients using this will reduce the cost overall.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about what treatment NICE recommends is a matter for NICE, not the UK Government or Parliament. We could accept a petition calling on the Government to fund OPTUNE brain cancer treatment through the NHS, if that's something you'd like to happen.
