Return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius

What the petition asks
The UK's call for Russia to leave Ukraine isn't credible if the UK retains unjustly held land elsewhere. To lead by example the UK should return the Chagos Islands - which the UK established as an overseas territory in 1965, with the inhabitants forcibly deported - to Mauritius.
The UK can't credibly tell Russia to keep out of Ukraine, when the UK unjustly retains overseas territories, from which the inhabitants were forcibly removed. The UN and the International Court of Justice has called on the UK to return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. To get some moral authority to tell the Russians what to do, we should start by leading by example and return control of the Chagos Archipelago.
