Petition · past parliament

Reinstate Drivers licence renewals at UK Post Offices immediately.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

I want the UK Government to amend the current driver licence suspension imposed on all UK Post Office Counter services immediately, I want the government to extend expired Photo licence renewals by six months or until the current back log of renewals at DVLA has been cleared.
Many drivers do not hold a valid passport, due to it's expiry, or have no passport at all. I want all UK Post Office Services reinstated as they provide the photograph and confirm the renewal application ensuring it has been correctly completed. The final option of applying by post is irrelevant, all this will achieve is further delays, and create further piles of applications adding to the current back log. The DVLA must ensure licence renewals are notified as required within 56 days of expiry.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand that you are concerned about arrangements for renewing driving licences, but we can't find any evidence that the UK Government has suspended the ability of Post Offices to offer driving licence renewals.

The Post Office has said that some Post Office branches are not currently able to offer digital in branch driving licence renewals, and advises customers to use the Branch Finder for more information on services available in your local area before you visit a Post Office: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/renew-driving-licence

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to extend driving licences by 6 months, due to delays processing renewals, if that's something you'd like to happen.
