Windfall tax on the companies making huge profits from the energy crisis.

What the petition asks
Place a much lower cap on energy prices, as the French have done, and place a windfall tax on the energy companies and market traders making increased profits from the current crisis.
The current energy crisis is causing misery for ordinary people who cannot afford to heat their homes or feed their families. Meanwhile huge profits are being made on the back of this current crisis. Yet there isn't any less gas or oil being produced, the crisis is a result of speculation in the market pushing up prices. The government can and should do the job they were elected for and protect the people of this country.
Why it was rejected
