Ensure all high street retailers offer customers an email copy of their receipts

What the petition asks
Enact a rule so that all high street retailers are required to offer customers the ability to have their receipts emailed to them.
Most retailers do not offer to replace or return an item if the customer cannot show a receipt of purchase. Maintaining a bunch of such receipts creates unnecessary pressure on the customer. Moreover being printed on paper they are not exactly environment friendly.
Hence, I seek to ask the government to make it mandatory for all high street retailers to offer customers the ability to email them their receipts.

Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a decision for retailers.
